How to prepare for your trip with Projects Abroad

What you need to do and how we can help before you begin your adventure

Av Projects Abroad | 29 april 2026

So you’re booked on to travel with Projects Abroad (good choice!). It’s time to get excited and start to prepare for your trip.

Soon, your Destination Expert will be in touch to support you through to departure, with information and advice on your destination and what you need to do before you fly.

Read on to find out exactly what you need to do and how we can support you before your project starts.

Comprehensive pre-departure support

When preparing for a typical trip abroad, there’s a lot you need to organise. With us, your project fees cover all your accommodation, in-destination transportation, three meals a day, and 24/7 staff support. That alone takes a lot off your plate, but we aren’t done there.

After booking, you’ll be assigned a dedicated Destination Expert (DE) who is exactly that: an expert on your destination. They will be there to provide advice on everything you need before you leave. This is all included as part of any trip with Projects Abroad.

Real human support

The first thing they’ll do is be there to answer any of your questions, big or small. They’ll be your permanent point of contact throughout the build up to your trip and will always be happy to help.

They’ll talk you through what is expected of you and provide the final, full, and precise details on your accommodation and project work, including the names and location of your host family and other details, depending on the nature of your placement.

Keeping you on track

Your DE will provide you with a tailored packing list, detailing all the items they suggest taking based on your project and the time of year you are travelling. That will help make sure you have all the essentials and avoid last minute panic.

Plus, they’ll give you advice and guidance on any visas or vaccinations you might need depending on your destination and can help you book the best flights and travel insurance for your trip. (P.S. We can also organise travel insurance on your behalf and add it to the project costs, taking one more thing off your list.)

They’ll make sure to send you important updates and reminders throughout the process to make sure you don’t miss anything, like deadlines for visa applications.

Cultural preparation

Some of the countries we work in have cultural norms and expectations you need to be aware of before you travel. This might include local attitudes towards showing skin or how to act in public areas.

Closer to your departure, they’ll give you a cultural presentation to prepare you for life in a new country, including the essential do’s and don’t’s with guidelines to help avoid causing accidental issues. This will be followed up by a full orientation session with our staff on arrival.

Remove the unknowns and travel with confidence

By helping you prepare, you get a much smoother and stress-free travel experience. You can book on and relax with the knowledge that you’ll be supported right through to the moment you return home. You won’t have to worry about forgetting anything or use your time trying to plan the adventure for yourself.

We want our trips to be stress-free, and that experience goes a long way towards why we’re rated “Excellent” on TrustPilot. Read real reviews from our participants to find out more about how our pre-departure advice helped them.
