Is this trip to Tanzania right for me?
A Discovery Tour in Tanzania is perfect for curious travellers who are looking for an authentic African experience. You’ll spend a week immersed in the culture as you learn about the country’s history and traditions from local guides. When you’re not with the people, you’ll witness the incredible wildlife found in the many nature reserves.
This trip is open to anyone over the age of 18. It’s a great way to explore and make new friends in a tight knit group of travellers.
You’ll get to stay with a local host family during your time in Tanzania. This will open your eyes further to the hospitality and friendliness of the locals. They’ll welcome you into their homes and you’ll be in awe at the delicious dishes they serve.
What will I do on this project?
Your Discovery Tour in Tanzania is a culturally rich introduction to Africa. This is what you’ll get up to:
Day 1 – Arrival in Arusha
Our staff will be ready and waiting for you the moment you land in Arusha. They’ll take you straight to your host family accommodation where you can freshen up and rest after a long journey.
Once your whole group has arrived, you’ll be given a tour of Arusha and the surrounding areas. You’ll be introduced to the local culture before finishing off with a Swahili language lesson. A few of these Swahili phrases might come in handy during other activities.
Day 2 – Cultural Centre and Micro-finance Project
Get ready to learn more about the history and locals in Tanzania. You’ll visit the Cultural Heritage Centre where you’ll discover handmade crafts, precious stones and other local art.
The second half of your day will be spent with local female entrepreneurs who are working with our Micro-finance Project in Tanzania. You’ll find out more about their developing businesses and how they sustain themselves through organic farming and traditional crafts.
Day 3 – Cooking class
It’s all about fresh ingredients and food today! Bring your culinary curiosity and hungry bellies because your taste buds are doing to be dancing for joy. You’ll start the day shopping for fresh produce at a local market before blending them into some of the most delectable local dishes during a cooking lesson. You’ll even get to finish off by enjoying the fruits of your labour.
Day 4 – Teach at a Maasai school
You’ll learn more about the education system and the Maasai during today’s activities. You’ll visit a Maasai school and spend time with the children who attend it. You can help run educational classes and plan fun activities that develop their skills like ball games and arts and crafts. You’ll even get to meet the parents of the students to learn more about the Maasai culture and the impact the school has had on their children.
Day 5 – Maasai Village
Following on yesterday’s activities, you’ll begin your day with a Maasai cultural workshop. You’ll learn more about this long-standing tribe, their customs and dress. Once you’ve learned all you need to know, you’ll actually get to visit a Maasai Village with your group. Use this opportunity to ask questions and discover their way of life.
Day 6 – Safari trip
Your trip is not complete without a game drive in one of the most famous national parks, Tarangire National Park. You’ll put on your safari hat and jump into a Jeep for a ride you’ll never forget. You’ll get to see a range of wildlife, undisturbed in their natural habitats - exactly where they’re meant to be.
Day 7 – Departure from Arusha
Before heading back to the airport, you’ll lace up your hiking boots for a trek to the Meru waterfalls. It’s a moment you’ll never forget with the glisten and rush of the water. Finally, you’ll pack away your week of incredible adventures (plus a souvenir or two) and head back home. Your trip may have felt quick, but your memories are truly forever.
